The court extended the term of arrest of Avaz Zeynalli
Baku/29.12.22/Turan: On December 29, the Binagadi District Court of Baku granted the request of the investigation to extend the preventive measure against journalist Avaz Zeynalli for another three months.
This was announced by his lawyer Fahraddin Mehdiyev.
“Initially, the court chose Avaz Zeynalli as a preventive measure in the form of detention for a period of 4 months. This period expired on January 8th. Therefore, the investigation put forward a motion to extend the term of arrest for another three months. We protested, noting that the extension of the arrest would be a continuation of lawlessness against Zeynalli. We asked at least to be limited to house arrest. However, the court rejected our application,” the lawyer said.
He also pointed to Zeynalli's unreasonable ban on dates and telephone conversations with his loved ones.
According to the lawyer, the journalist had health problems.
In particular, Zeynalli complains of high blood pressure, exacerbation of diabetes. In addition, his eyesight has deteriorated. “Avaz Zeynalli has a cataract. Medicines do not help, a surgical operation is necessary,” the lawyer said.
* Recall that lawyer Elchin Sadygov and Avaz Zeynally, founder of the website "Khural TV", were detained on 10 September on suspicion of taking a bribe. On 11 September a court arrested both of them.
