The Court of Appeal leaves the PFPA activist in custody
Baku/12.11.21/Turan: On November 12, the Baku Court of Appeal (BCA), chaired by Gabil Mammadov, considered a complaint about the administrative arrest of Ramiz Jafarov, a member of the Binagadi regional branch of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA).
The complaint was filed by lawyer Fahraddin Mehdiyev.
Jafarov said that he was detained on November 3, when he was in a taxi, and then taken to the police. During the arrest, the activist was subjected to insults and pressure. At the police station, they demanded a phone code. He refused , and was pressured. Jafarov demanded a meeting with his lawyer, but this was not ensured.
A protocol was drawn up against him on the commission of offenses under the Article 510 (petty hooliganism) and 535.1 (disobedience to the lawful demands of the police) of the Administrative Code and the Sabunchu District Court sentenced him to 25 days of arrest.
The lawyer said that since in administrative cases the appellate instance is the highest structure for appeal, the defense will now turn to the European Court of Human Rights to recognize in the long term the illegality of the arrest of the activist and pay compensation to him. –06D-
