The Court of Appeal released the oppositionist

Baku/22.06.21/Turan: The Baku Court of Appeal (BAS) today decided to release an activist of the Party of People's Front of Azerbaijan (PPFA) Said Mammadzadeh (Bakuvi).

Judge Faig Ganiev replaced a jail term with a suspended sentence.

On April 28, the Khatai Court, under the chairmanship of judge Ibrahim Ibrahimli, handed down a sentence of imprisonment Mammadzadeh (Bakuvi) to 3 years and 6 months. He was found guilty under Article 221.3 (hooliganism with the use of an object as a weapon) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.

Mammadzadeh declared that he had been punished for sharp criticism of high-ranking officials.

In turn, the chairman of the PPFA, Ali Kerimli noted that the arrest of the famous athlete Bakuvi who has repeatedly defended the honor of Azerbaijan at competitions is a political order.

It should be recalled that Mammadzadeh is the European champion in mixed martial arts (MMA).

Today, the Court of Appeal replaced 3.5 years of imprisonment with a suspended sentence for the same period with a 2-year probation period. - 16D06-
