The Court of Appeal upheld the verdict to Giyas and Hasan Ibrahimov
Baku/21.02.18/Turan: The trial of the youth activist Giyas Ibrahimov and his father Hasan Ibrahimov completed in the Baku Court of Appeal. Father and son were found guilty under Article 289.2 (disrespect for the judge) of the Criminal Code. The Yasamal district court sentenced Giyas Ibrahimov to 3 months in prison, in addition to 10 years earlier imprisonment.
Hasan Ibrahimov was sentenced to 1.5 years of correctional labor with a monthly retention of 20% of earnings. On Wednesday, the Court of Appeal dismissed the complaint. Defense intends to file a cassation appeal to the Supreme Court.
The lawsuit in connection with the incident on June 5 of this year in the Baku Court of Appeal, when Giyas Ibrahimov, during a public prosecutor's speech, tore off a microphone that was in a glass cage (Giyas Ibrahimov and Bairam Mammadov were sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment on charges of illicit drug trafficking after that , as they wrote political slogans on the monument to Heydar Aliyev.)
This happened after the judge ignored the calls of Giyas that he did not hear anything. Judicial warders entered the cage and shackled Ibrahimov in handcuffs, using brute force. The outraged father of the activist protested, urging the judge to stop the violence. "There will come a day when this will happen to your children," he exclaimed.
The judges of the Baku Appeals Court Bagar Mammadov, Aflatun Gasimov and Amir Bayramov saw this as disrespect for themselves.
However, despite the petitions of the defense, their participation in the court was not ensured either in the court of first instance or in the court of appeal. -03B06-
