The court will consider the appeal for hospitalization of Bakhtiyar Hajiyev
Baku/07.02.23/Turan: Public activist Bakhtiyar Hajiyev has been on a hunger strike for the 30th day in the Baku pre-trial detention center-1 demanding his release. On Wednesday, a lawyer Zibeyda Sadigova visited him. According to her, the health of the activist remains serious. He has lost even more weight, his blood pressure is low, his blood sugar level is close to critical, and he loses consciousness more often, she told Turan.
The lawyer noted that she twice applied to the Penitentiary Service and the main medical department of the Ministry of Justice to provide MRI and CT examinations, and then to hospitalize Hajiyev. Having received no response, the lawyer filed a complaint with the court against the indicated departments and with a request to ensure the hospitalization of Hajiyev due to a serious state of health as a result of a long hunger strike. Consideration of the application is scheduled for February 9 at the Sabunchi District Court of Baku.
According to the lawyer, Hajiyev asked to convey condolences in connection with the death of people because of the earthquake in Turkey and asked his friends, acquaintances, public activists to spare no effort to help the victims.
* Bakhtiyar Hajiyev was detained on December 9 on charges of hooliganism and contempt of court. On the same day, the Khatai District Court arrested him for 1 month and 20 days.
On December 15, Hajiyev went on a hunger strike demanding his release. On December 28, he ended his hunger strike after persistent calls from the public and family members. However, on January 9, he resumed his hunger strike after the appeal court refused to release him and continues to this day. On January 21, the court extended Hajiyev's arrest for another 1 month.
