The European Court of Human Rights will consider the case of journalist from Nakhchivan
The European Court of Human Rights began communicating on the complaint of a journalist from Nakhchivan, Hakimeldostu Mehdiyev, who in 2007 was subjected to inhuman treatment. The European Court sent the corresponding request to the government of Azerbaijan, according to Media Rights Institute.
In September 2007, Mehdiyev was subjected to physical pressure on the part of the Chief of the Sharur branch of the Ministry of National Security (MNS) in Nakhchivan.
The reason was the pressure from his critical articles about human rights in Nakhchivan.
The journalist was arrested for several days on false charges, and whilst in prison he again was subjected to physical pressure on the part of the MNS workers and supervisors. As a result, he received various injuries, and his ribs were broken. His complaints to the local authorities remained unanswered.
The appeal to the European Court of lawyers reads that the Azerbaijani courts have ignored the complaints of the journalist on violation of the Articles 3, 5, 6 and 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights. -16D-
