The government should continue the study abroad program
Baku / 22.04.19 / Turan: In recent days, the success of two young Azerbaijanis, Yasin Guliyev and Javid Alizade, who have won grants of $ 56,000 and $ 74,000 to study at foreign universities has been widely discussed in social networks. There are many talented, educated young people in Azerbaijan and this news is only the tip of the iceberg, says foreign education expert Bahar Hajizade. "To enroll in prestigious foreign universities, you need to know English very well and pass exams, and this requires a lot of money. That's why many talented students can't get it," she says.
The expert stressed the role of the state in this matter, noting that the state program on education abroad should be implemented." There was such a programs, but it stopped. In my opinion, the government did not have enough funds to continue it. This program is designed for those who want to get a bachelor"s degree, master"s degree or even a Ph.D.".
In her opinion, the State program should be extended to those who want to get a higher master's degree. Because the bachelor's degree is 4 years, and it is very expensive. When a student at state expense does not return to the country, society loses, she said.
In previous years, Azerbaijani students who wanted to study abroad could use the "State Program for the Education of Azerbaijani Youth in Foreign Countries for 2007-2015". Since 2016, the program has been interrupted. -0-
