Baku/04.08.23/Turan: Today, the Khatai District Court of Baku rejected the complaint of the chairman of the Confederation of Trade Unions under the movement "Democracy 1918" Afiyaddin Mammadov about his detention by the staff of the Main Police Department of Baku and the award of an administrative fine to him, the head of the Movement "Democracy 1918" Ahmed Mammadli said. According to him, Mammadov himself was not brought to court, and his lawyer also refused to participate in the trial in protest. According to Mammadli, an appeal will be filed against this decision.

He also noted that Mammadov continues his hunger strike in the Pre-trial Detention Center for persons arrested by the Ministry of Internal Affairs in an administrative manner, from the day of his placement there on August 2.

Mammadov is protesting against the unjustified arrest, the imposition of a fine and the deprivation of his right to telephone conversations in a pre-trial detention center. According to Mammadli, the date of consideration of Mammadov's appeal for a 30-day arrest has not yet been set. Mammadli was detained on August 1. The next day the Khatai District Court of Baku imposed a fine of 500 manats on Mammadov, finding him guilty under Article 528.1 (Failure to comply with the requirements of an executive official in connection with the execution of decisions of judicial and other bodies) The Code of Administrative Offences.

In addition, on the same day, the Yasamal district Court sentenced Mammadov to 30 days of administrative arrest, finding him guilty under Article 535.1 (disobedience to the police) The Code of Administrative Offences.

Earlier, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that Mammadov "was detained because of announcement of his wanted list in connection with non-payment of debt obligations established by the court," and arrested for 30 days.

The "Democracy 1918" Movement links his arrest to a protest action by food delivery couriers who expressed dissatisfaction with the seizure of their scooters in connection with innovations in the rules of the road. Mammadov, being the head of the Confederation of Trade Unions under the "Democracy 1918" Movement, actively advocates for the labor rights of couriers and workers in other fields of activity.
