The mother of a religious activist protests against the torture of her son
Baku/15.05.23/Turan: Rahima Huseynova, the mother of the imprisoned /Abbas Huseyn, a member of the Muslim Union Movement, held a protest rally on May 15 near the Presidential Administration. She protested against the torture of her son in custody.
On April 27, based on the submission of the administration of the pre-trial detention center No. 1, the Nizami District Court decided to transfer Abbas Huseyn to the Gobustan closed-type prison for a year.
The head of the Union of Muslims Movement, Taleh Bagirzade, Abbas Huseyn and a number of other religious figures were detained on November 26, 2015 as a result of a special operation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the village of Nardaran.
The detainees were accused of participating in a criminal group organized by Bagirzade. They were found guilty of terrorism, illegal possession of weapons, an attempt to change the constitutional order by force, resisting the police and other articles of the Criminal Code and sentenced to imprisonment for a term of 12 to 19 years. Abbas Huseyn was sentenced to 20 years in prison. He and a number of other activists are recognized as political prisoners.
Lawyer Fahraddin Mehdiyev said that the transfer to the Gobustan prison is a form of punishment for this prisoner. In the pre-trial detention center, Abbas Huseyn was also put under pressure by being placed in a punishment cell. Previously, this prisoner was subjected to similar pressure in jail N7. All complaints about these violations were not considered, the lawyer noted. He also added that an appeal has been filed against the decision to send Abbas Huseyn to Gobustan prison.
The request of the Turan agency to the Penitentiary Service to comment on the case of Abbas Huseyn to the Penitentiary Service fell on deaf ear. --0-
