The Press Council will hold a congress of journalists
Baku / 05.02.18 / Turan: The Press Council intends to hold a congress of journalists of the country on March 10. Such a decision was made at a meeting of the Press Council on Monday. In the same place, an organizing committee was set up to hold the event.
Daily newspapers and news agencies that are members of the Press Council will be allocated 2 seats, weekly and monthly newspapers, regional publications, magazines, journalistic organizations and Internet sites in one place as delegates. The Congress will elect the members of the Press Council.
The Press Council was established in Azerbaijan in 2003 as a public independent organization representing the interests of all media. However, very soon, this structure fell under the full control of the authorities, and independent and opposition media out of it. Nevertheless, the Press Council pretends to speak on behalf of all journalists.
Over the years, the Press Council has turned into a voice propagandizing the policy of the authorities and has done little to protect freedom of the press and the word in the country. -02D-
