The Prosecutor General Office is investigating a complaint about the violation of the rights of Polad Aslanov
Baku/17.08.19/Turan: The Ombudsman"s Office and the Prosecutor General"s Office responded to appeals to these structures in the case of the arrested journalist, editor of the site xeberman.com Polad Aslanov, said his wife Gulmira Aslanova.
According to her, the letter from the ombudsman"s office says that in connection with Aslanov"s appeal about his unjustified arrest, torture over him, biased conduct by the State Security Service of the investigation, pressure on lawyer Elchin Sadigov, a letter was sent to the Prosecutor General"s office to investigate the journalist"s complaints and take measures.
"The letter from the Prosecutor General"s office indicates that an investigation on the above facts is underway. In this connection, they summoned me to the prosecutor"s office," Aslanova said.
She added that a representative of the Prosecutor General Office visited her husband in the detention center because of her appeal.
"However, he was not interested in the conditions of detention of Polad Aslanov. Although the representative of the Prosecutor General Office should have investigated how correctly the investigation is being conducted, and the true reason for huis arrest. The appeal of Polad Aslanov sent to the Prosecutor General read that the said representative of the prosecutor general"s office either did not know his job or was specifically instructed in this way. In general, Polad Aslanov is dissatisfied with the investigation of the prosecutor general"s office,"Gulmira Aslanova said.
The editor of the site xeberman.com, Polad Aslanov , was detained on June 12, and the next day the court arrested him for 4 months. He is charged under the Article 274 ( high treason) of the Criminal Code. The investigation is conducted by the State Security Service.
Local and international organizations condemned the criminal prosecution of Aslanov, believing that the real reason for Aslanov"s arrest was his journalistic activity. -21B-
