The remains of the Sheki Khan were reburied secretly – Aydin Mammadov
Baku/24.07.23/Turan: The remains of one of the rulers of the Sheki Khanate in the 18th century, Muhammdhusein Khan, were reburied on July 22 in a casual atmosphere at the khan's cemetery in Sheki, historian-researcher, journalist Aydin Mammadov told Turan. He personally discovered the khan's grave in the Mosque of the Sheki Khans on July 3, 2021, before the first mihrab of the temple.
"Then the remains were extracted and it was stated that they would be reburied in a solemn atmosphere. For two years it is not clear where the remains were stored, and finally on July 22 at nine o'clock in the morning they were reburied at the Khan cemetery. At the same time, only 10 people were present – the imam of the Khan Mosque and his assistant, three religious figures from the Juma mosque, etc. None of the officials of the region and the republic were present. The grave was dug at night, the funeral was actually held secretly. No filming was carried out. Representatives of the Shekikhanov dynasty were very much waiting for this event. But no one notified them and invited them to the reburial," Mammadov said.
According to him, a tombstone indicating the identity of the buried person was not even placed on the grave.
"They said that the monument would be erected later. However, the monument could be prepared in advance in two years," the researcher noted. He considers the reburial of the remains of the Sheki Khan in such a form as not respecting the memory of the dynasty of the Sheki Khans, the history of the region and Azerbaijan as a whole. ---06B---

Baku, often called the "Caucasian Dubai," is increasingly known for systematic violations of residents' housing rights. During urban renovations and the construction of elegant new buildings, thousands of families in Azerbaijan’s capital have been unlawfully deprived of their homes. Many, recognizing the futility of resistance, settle for inadequate monetary compensation for their irreplaceable property. A minority, placing faith in the Housing Code, demand fair compensation from construction companies but often lose everything—both their homes and any form of recompense.
