The Supreme Court upheld the verdict of the convicted in the case of the rape of an activist
Today, the Supreme Court of Azerbaijan has not satisfied the appeal of Asker Agazade, convicted in the case of the young gender-activist Senay Yagmur. The accused asked for an acquittal, Zibeyda Sadygova, the lawyer of Yagmur told Turan. "However, the judicial staff did not ensure the complaint and upheld the decisions of the previous instances," Sadygova said.
On October 12, 2022, the Baku Court of Serious Crimes sentenced Agazade, accused of raping a minor teenager, to 5 years in prison. Agazade was found guilty under Article 149.2.3 (rape committed against a person known to be under the age of majority) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan, which provides for 5 to 10 years of imprisonment.
Senay Yagmur is the daughter of an activist of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) Fuad Gahramanli and the writer Zumrud Yagmur. Senay Yagmur herself is known as a gender activist. Agazade and S.Yagmur are cousins.
