The West must impose sanctions against the government of Azerbaijan - "REAL"
The arrest of Natig Jafarli is the pressure on the political organization of the force, which is growing. This was leytomotiv of the press conference in the office on the occasion of the arrest of REAL’s executive secretary Natig Jafarli. The press conference was also attended by the head of the National Council Jamil Hasanli, head of the Movement D 18 Ruslan Izzetli, NGO leaders and public figures.
Member of the Board of REAL Erkin Gadirli said that the arrest of Jafarli will not weaken the Movement.
"Chairman of REAL Ilgar Mamedov has been in custody for four years, a board member Rasul Jafarov was only recently released. Now they arrested Natig Jafarli. During these arrests REAL has only intensified, and the number of its members has grown.
We collected signatures of voters and created an initiative group on referendum. We have collected 45.000 signatures for registration of campaign groups. The arrest of Natig Jafarli will contribute to further unite the citizens around the REAL," Gadirli said. He said that Jafarli was arrested on August 12 at about 22:00.
"In violation of the law, he was detained at night, then illegally interrogated in the prosecutor's office. At night, his apartment was illegally searched. They seized a computer and jewelry of his wife. Nasimi District Court illegally arrested Natig Jafarli at night," said Gadirli.
REAL made a statement, in which he demanded the immediate release of Jafarli. The statement also said: "The arrest of Natig Jafarli is a clear evidence of the continuation of political repression in the country. This is a test for the United States and EU countries, proclaiming their priority human rights and democracy. They need to show how true they are to their values. In this situation they can prove their loyalty to the values by the application of sanctions against the stranglers of democracy.»- 03B06--
