Trial in the case of Hilal Mammadov
Preparatory meeting in the case of the editor of the "Tolishi Sado" newspaper and the eponymous Cultural Center, Hilal Mammadov, was held on January 9 at the Serious Crimes Court.
He was arrested on June 21, 2012 on charges of spying for Iran under the articles: 274 (treason), 283.2.2 (inciting national and religious hatred) and 234.4.3 (illegal possession and distribution of drugs.)
If he is found guilty, he could be sentenced to 15 years in prison.
International human rights and media organizations recognized Mammadov as a prisoners of conscience and has repeatedly called for his immediate release.
Mammadov's arrest came after he posted to the Internet a widely known today video of the wedding in Astara region, with popular meykhana: “Who are you, goodbye.” -16D-
