Trial of Religious Activist Ahsan Nuruzadeh Began

Baku / 18.01.18 / Turan: In the Baku Grave Crimes Court, under the chairmanship of Judge Sabuhi Huseynov, a preparatory meeting was held on January 18 on the case of the religious activist Ahsan Nuruzadeh who is accused of illicit drug trafficking on a large scale.
As the lawyer Fariz Namazli told Turan, the defense spoke at the trial with a number of motions. The lawyer petitioned to stop the criminal proceedings. In case of failure to satisfy this motion, the defense asked the court to transfer Nuruzadeh under house arrest before the completion of the judicial investigation. "We also asked the court to exclude a number of evidence from the materials of the case because they were obtained illegally: for example, the primary testimony was obtained under torture, and subsequently the accused refused it," the lawyer said.

According to him, the court did not satisfy any of the petitions. The defense believes Nuruzadeh was arrested on a far-fetched charge. At the same time, the lawyer drew attention to the fact that he had previously been arrested twice in administrative order. He was detained in the Main Directorate for Combating Organized Crime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. At the same time he was warned that if he did not give up his social and political activities, he would be sent to prison for a long term, the lawyer continued.

According to Namazli, the court accepted the case for consideration. The commencement of the judicial proceedings is essentially scheduled for January 23.

The activist of the movement Muslim Unity Ahsan Nuruzadeh was arrested on charges of drug trafficking on October 6, 2017. He was charged under Article 234.4.3. (illegal drug trafficking in a large amount) of the Criminal Code, which provides for punishment from 5 to 12 years of imprisonment.

Nuruzadeh was involved in the coordination of legal and public protection of religious activists arrested in connection with the Nardaran events of 2015. -06B--
