Two hundred prisoners released from prisons ahead of schedule
Baku / 27.03.20 / Turan: In recent days, 200 convicts have been released from prisons. Their cases were examined immediately by the judges on duty, the press service of the Ministry of Justice reports.
According to human rights activist Novella Jafaroglu, a human rights working group appealed to the presidential administration with a request for the early release of prisoners in connection with the coronavirus pandemic.
“The release of prisoners has already begun, and there is little time left before the end of their term.
While letting go of those who have 3 months left before the deadline, then this decision will be referred to those who have 6 and 9 months left. The process will continue in April,” Jafaroglu told Turan.
In addition, members of the Monitoring Group of Human Rights Organizations requested to release political prisoners as well.
“The monitoring group believes that the release of persons recognized as political prisoners should not be regarded as a result of international pressure, but an act of humanism of the Azerbaijani state,” Jafaroglu said.
According to various human rights structures, there are from 110 to 130 political prisoners in Azerbaijan. — 03D06-
