Baku/14.12.18/Turan: Community development projects that improve electrical supplies, rehabilitate roads, construct medical facilities, and provide access to water for irrigation and household use were the focus of the Fourth Annual Community Development Conference held on December 14 and 15. The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Assistant Administrator for Europe and Eurasia Brock Bierman and the Deputy Minister of Economy of Azerbaijan Sahib Mammadov joined leaders representing nearly 150 communities across 24 districts to discuss community development progress in Azerbaijan.

The participants in the conference shared successes, challenges, and best practices in mobilizing resources to implement community socio-economic development projects, as well as new opportunities and initiatives for community development in their respective regions around Azerbaijan. The two-day conference was organized by East-West Management Institute (EWMI) under USAID"s and the Azerbaijani Ministry of Economy"s Socio-Economic Development Activity (SEDA).

SEDA has helped nearly 150 communities, home to over 215,000 people, to build 125 projects that have improved lives and livelihoods. The program will work with communities to implement 45 additional projects by October 2019.

The first day of the conference concluded with an award ceremony for project participants who have demonstrated outstanding leadership towards community development.
