Veli Aleskerov’s Brother Also Arrested in Nakhchivan
The elder brother of the former head of the Ministry of National Security of the Nakchivan Autonomous Republic Veli Aleskerov, Ali Aleskerov was arrested in Nakhchivan on October 12 on charges of tax evasion.
According to the regional correspondent of Turan, in respect of Ali Aleskerov a preventive measure was applied in the form of arrest for a period of 3 months.
Ali Aleskerov is an entrepreneur. His business flourished when his brother was the Minister of National Security of the autonomous republic. So, he owned a broiler factory in Ordubad, a fish farming enterprise in Sharur, and catering facilities.
The Aleskerov brothers were known for their tough attitude to local civil society activists and journalists.
On June 24, the Military Court of Grave Crimes of Nakhchivan sentenced Veli Aleskerov for 14 years, convicting him of misappropriation, abuse of office and illegal wiretapping.
Recall that Veli Aleskerov was the head of the National Security Ministry of Nakhchivan for 15 years. He was suddenly dismissed in December 2015. Shortly thereafter a criminal case was filed against him. Later, Aleskerov was released under house arrest. But then he was again arrested after he told the press about his innocence and torture during his arrest. According to the preliminary investigation results, Aleskerov is now charged with illegal wiretapping. -85B06-
