Why Do Fish Die in Mingechevir Reservoir?
Baku / 14.07.18 / Turan: The Ministry of Ecology studies information about the death of fish in the Goran Gulf of the Mingechevir Reservoir. In the statement of the Ministry of Ecology on the results of the inspection of this territory, the death of fish is confirmed.
"During the inspection in the shallow water of the Goran Gulf, a large amount of dead bream was found," the Ministry said.
Samples of water and fish were taken from different parts of the reservoir, and biological, morphological, physiological and histological analyzes were carried out. Infectious diseases and poisoning facts were revealed.
The Ministry notes the revealed increase in the water temperature, as well as the inappropriate physical and chemical situation on the shoals on the day of sampling. It is assumed the fish organisms could not adapt to these changes, which led to their death.
According to the conclusion of the Ministry's specialists, the mass mortality of fish is associated with climatic changes, abrupt anomalous warming, and suboptimal hydrophysical indicators of the fish habitat.
The Mingechevir Reservoir is the largest in the country. It is used for irrigation, providing water to the 172-kilometer Upper Garabagh Canal and the 123-kilometer Upper Shirvan Canal. The reservoir is also used for fish farming. --0--
