Youth continues to block the demolition of an architectural monument
Baku / 07.05.19 / Turan: Dozens of young people continue to protect the historic building in the center of Baku, which according to unofficial data, they were going to demolish.
On the evening of May 6, the police made several attempts to free the two-story building at the address: St.S. Rustam, 10. However, young people, members of various public associations and groups, refused to obey them.
Young people began a campaign in Facebook calling on citizens to stand up for the building and prevent its demolition.
After that, foreign diplomats and public figures arrived at the building, expressing support for the youth action.
Meanwhile, the initiators of the defense of the building addressed an open letter to the Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva, urging her to intervene and prevent demolition.
As for the building itself, none of the officials spoke about its values and plans for demolition.
This building was built in 1913, as a Molokan prayer house. In Soviet times, it housed the Radio Communications House. In the post-Soviet time the building was empty and turned out to be ownerless. Recently, it was put in order by enthusiasts from "Salaam Cinema" and free film shows were held here. These young people defended the building. -16B-
