Collage of Expansionism

In the spring of 2020, a well-known article by the President of the Georgian National Academy Vladimir Ramishvili entitled “The Armenian-Georgian Dispute: Javakheti or ‘Javakhk’? The history of separatism" was revived on the Internet. Perhaps this material would not have attracted much attention, since the situation described in the introduction that precedes the material is well known - namely, the fact that "the Armenian nationalists" have a powerful "fifth column" inside Georgia, represented by "the numerous separatist Armenian population of Samtskhe-Javakheti, as well as ethnic Armenians and Crypto Armenians in other regions of Georgia." However, the subtlety is that the second part of V. Ramishvili's serious research is accompanied by a rather interesting collage. 1 / a, b).

And this collage is suggestive, especially since it is used quite often on the web (2, 3).

Surely, looking at this collage, without much stress, you can notice that it is a few hypothetical, if I may say so, flags around the flag of Armenia, which clearly implies the existence of a real idea of including (through occupation, probably) the territories of Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey to Armenia. In other words, this collage is aimed at visual perception of those familiar with it as a map of Armenia “for the future”, including the lands of neighboring states.

Without a doubt, many will call these "collage ideas" delirium or a manifestation of painful fantasy dreams. But, as it can be seen, it is on such "painful" ideas in their delirium that the young men and women of Armenia are brought up.

In order not to be unfounded, we can recall the first meeting (2018) of the Russian-Armenian "Lazarev Club", one of the initiators and organizers of which is the notorious first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee of the Federal Assembly of Russia for CIS affairs, Eurasian integration and relations with compatriots Konstantin Zatulin. According to Armenian sources, “behind the scenes” of the forum, “representatives of the Russian side spoke about Nakhchivan and assured that at the upcoming meeting they would refer to the Russian-Turkish Moscow Treaty of 1921, according to which Armenian lands were transferred to Turkey and Azerbaijan”. As it was noted at the same time, “if the [Lazarev] club really sets out to strengthen relations and the Armenian-Russian friendship, then this agreement has to be revised”. In light of this, it was stated that "without solving this problem, the Armenian-Russian friendship will remain a thousand-year phantom and fiction."

The lobbies are on the sidelines, but this summer the portal lragir.am again called the Russian-Turkish agreement of 1921 "illegitimate" (4).

The author considered in some detail the absurdity and unhistoricity of this aspect (5), so there is no point in repeating it. But the fact remains: the Armenian side sees the idea embodied in the above collage as a “historical reality”.

For example, one of the columnists for Sputnik Armenia spoke in the following way: “Western Armenia, although it remained within Turkey, did not become a Turkish land. There are no Armenians here, but there is also no feeling that you are in Turkey. Now the rebellious Kurds are leaving with weapons to the mountains. And the most magnificent of them keeps one of the most mysterious secrets of sacred history. According to legend, the Ark will open to humanity when the Lord wishes. And, probably, this can happen only when the true heirs of Ararat return here” (6).

No more, no less!

Well, in 2019, the president of the public organization "Javakhk Diaspora of Russia" Aghasi Arabian, calling it obvious the sliding of the whole world to "a big crisis, which could result in a large-scale redistribution of borders and territories", outlined "serious opportunities" for "Armenian states and Armenians" ... In particular, he considered it possible that, given a certain development of events, Russia could find itself "at the head of the new Union" as a successor to the "Russian Empire and the USSR" and demand "the return of the Kars region." “Not only will it require, but will also ensure the annexation of large-scale territories of Western Armenia,” A. Arabian summed up (7).

As for the part of Georgia, which is compactly populated by Armenians, called Javakheti, according to the same V. Ramishvili, the “ultimate goal” of the Armenians inhabiting this area is “annexation of the region to Armenia” (1 / b).

Thus, an innocent, at first glance, collage with a placement in the center of Armenia and "distribution" along the edges of the territories of the states adjacent to this country, in fact, has a rather sinister subtext. But there is something surprising here: as one of the founders and theorists of the Dashnaktsutyun party, Christopher Mikaelyan, noted, while initially “the Armenian intellectuals of Russia and Turkey competed in noble promises to devote themselves to the cause of the liberation of the people”, then later their “ideal” became "the globe up to the homeland of the dollar - America"?
