Historical background

Since the start of the 19 century, the states concerned had been engaged in scheming various plans aimed at dissolving the Ottoman Empire. To implement these plans, they put forward an idea of ”Oriental Question”. An issue of “violation” of interests of Christian minorities residing in Turkey gave occasion to meddling in the Ottoman state. Note that the Armenian minority was especially interesting for engineers of these plans even despite the fact that there also resided Aysors, Greeks and ChristianArabs on the territory of the Ottoman Empire. That was explained as being due to their treacherous temper to convert faith as the case may require.

Taking the opportunity of the treacherous temper of Armenians, Christian missionaries in Anatolia prepared them to fight against the Ottoman government. Thus, the French called Armenians to go under beneficence of Catholic, Russians – Orthodox and Britishers – Protestant churches. Armenians tilted toward those putting up more money. In an attempt to turn Armenians into Protestants, American missionaries, starting from earlier 19 century, opened schools in various parts of Anatolia. The end of this century was notable for creation of special conditions for the Armenian youth to get education and engage in trade. In a while, the Armenian colony was formed in the United States to run anti-Turkic policy.

As a component part of the “Oriental Question”, the “Armenian question” was placed on the agenda of Berlin Congress after the Russian-Turkish war of 1877-1878. After Article 61 “On Granting Autonomy to Armenians in Eastern Anatolia” was placed in the Berlin treatise, Armenians took up arms to attain their goals. Russia and other European countries did their best to create armed detachments of Armenians and urge them to rise in rebellion. Note Europe-and Russia-backed Armenian political parties “Armenakan”, “Gnchak”, “Dashnaktzutuin” were engaged in creating armed squadrons and terror groups in Anatolia.

It has to be kept in mind that weapons were secretly supplied to Eastern Anatolia from Russia. Inturn, German, BritishandFrenchmissionaries actively incited Armenians to push back against Turkey.

In the 1890s Armenian plans directed to setting up an independent state in Anatolia fit into those of great powers willing to dismember the Ottoman Empire. In the meanwhile, quantitatively Armenians made up no majority in Empire’s provinces. Note that diplomatic missions acting in the Ottoman Empire were instructed to do their utmost to create an image of a Turk as “barbarian”, “blood-sucker”and “butcher”. Sabre-rattling and, as a result, counteractions of Turks were integral components of their plans. It was the beginning of the First World War and Turkey’s involvement in combat operations that gave European states a valuable opportunity to start their splitting activity against Turkey’s territorial integrity. Armenians, both in America and Europe-Russia, were mobilized to fight against Turks.

According to Armenian sources, there were more than150, 000 Armenians in the Russian army at the Caucasian front. It was 4 armed subunits of Armenians uniting 10, 000 volunteers set up with the blessing of Caucasian viceroy that crossed Irevan and South Azerbaijan to attack the Ottoman Empire. Availing of the Russian military advancement, Armenians carried out outrages and assassinations of Turks across Eastern Anatolia. In the meantime, foreign press published fictional articles about mass massacres of “oppressed Armenian Christians”.

Pogroms in Moslem towns of the Ottoman Empire

Eagertocreatean independent state on the territory of six provinces of Eastern Anatolia (Erzurum, Van, Bitlis, Harput, Diyarbakir and Sivas) renamed by Armenians into “Western Armenia” and resting on advancing Russian troops, Armenians began cutting Turks. OnMay14, 1915 following the capture of the town of Van by Russian troops, Armenians got down to slaughtering the local Moslem population. An Armenian government was set up in the town Van under the patronage of Russians. For a short while, some 250, 000 Armenians arrived in Van.

To prevent a blow from behind and avert acts of terror and sabotage by Armenians, the Turkish government was forced to resettle Armenians from the conflict zone far inland. OnMay2, 1915 the authorities, escorted by special forces began to go ahead with resettling Armenians. In so doing, resettling conditions did not cover Armenians residing out of the range of the military conflict.

There is a further point to be made is that year on year Armenians do mark April 24 as «a day of genocide». Theyinsistthatin1915 the Turks ostensibly exterminated 1,5 million of Armenians. But the fact is that the Turkish Minister of the Interior gave a command on immediate closing centers of Armenian committees in Istanbul and other towns, arresting their heads and related documents. 2,345 Armenians were placed in detention for treason. Of interest is the fact that Armenians had initially been aware of the command cited above. OnApril22, Catholicos of Echmiadzin sent a telegram to the US President asking him to protect Armenians against“arbitrariness of Turkish fanaticism”. The telegram came in the White House on April 24, i.e. on the day of the command. The reality is that the Armenians are marking April 24 as “a day of genocide” because after the decision on resettlement of Armenians the number of Armenians (minority in 6 provinces they meant to create their own state) minimized. In other words, their daydreams on the creation of the Armenian state on the territory of the Ottoman Empire did not come off.

As a matter of fact, during the occupation of Eastern Anatolia by Russians and in the post-Revolution-1917 period when Russian troops retired, Armenians seized their arms and committed genocide against Turks.

Jugglery of words

On December29, 1917 the government of Soviet Russia enacted a decree on “Turkish Armenia». If Turkey had really pursued a policy of ethnic cleansing of Armenians, the decree of the Russian government would be ridiculous. The decree heartened up Armenians for creation of their own state on the Turkish territory. Years 1918-1920 were notorious for Armenian massacres against Turks on a large territory, starting from Erzurum, including the Irevan province. The Turkish army was forced to take the offensive and cleared these territories from Armenian armed forces.

Interestingly, did Armenian researchers specify the number of Armenians residing in the Ottoman Empire in the reviewed period and how many of them survived?

In 1914, a report of certain A. Arakelyan was placed in the 2nd issue of XXII volume of “News of Caucasian department of the Imperial Russian Geographical Society” titled ”Statistics of the Armenian population of Asia Minor” delivered on May 22, 1913 at the general meeting of the above-mentioned society.

Of interest is the fact that Armenian authors never refer to the above-mentioned article byА. Arakelyan. The reason is perspicuous. The point is that the First World War had not yet begun when A. Arakelyan wrote his article in1913, so he could not even imagine that Christian missionaries would ever insist on “mass massacres”of Armenians in Turkey.

A. Arakelyan writes that in 1912, after the beginning of the war in the Balkans “the Armenian question “was again included in the agenda. The Turkish party argued that in the reviewed period that the Armenian population was insufficient to carry out reforms on territories of the Armenian residence. After that the Armenian Patriarch of Turkey provided more accurate statistics on the number of Armenians (it is worth reminding that Armenians were, as a rule, included in the list at churches). According to the statistics, total number of Armenians in 6 provinces made up 1.018.000. The author of the article points out that if the number of Armenians residing in the said provinces were added to those residing in Cilicia (i.е. province Adanai Heleb), as well as in Istanbul and other parts of the Ottoman Empire, they would total 1,5 million.

In reality, the figures above were essentially overstated by the Armenian Patriarch. All official sources say that there were 1,3 million Armenians in the Ottoman Empire on the eve of the First World War.

Note that the casualty scale among the1, 3 million Armenian population residing on the Turkish territory before the War can be calculated through subtracting Armenians that emigrated to foreign countries. Statistics about the number of Armenians that emigrated abroad on the eve and after the War is as follows: to Russia (including Southern Caucasus) – 420, 000;France– 35, 000; Canada– 1,244; the United States– 34,136;Greece- 42, 200; Bulgaria- 15, 000;Cyprus– 2,500 and other European countries–about 50, 000. Residing in the USA, Armenian historian Richard Ovannisyan writes that those registered after the War in Syria made up 100, 000; Lebanon- - 50, 000; Jordan– 10, 000; Egypt – 40, 000; Iraq– 25, 000;Iran– 50, 000. If added, a figure is 875, 000 plus123, 000 Armenians in Turkey totaling 998, 000. As a result, in accordance with unofficial data 100, 000 Armenians misrepresented themselves as Kurds, Surianis (Assyrians) and Turkmans that declined from resettlement. Hence, about 1, 1 million Armenians out of 1, 3 million left alive.

With reference to Ottoman archives, the Chairman of the Turkish historical structure, Yusif Halacoglu came to the conclusion that in the resettlement period the number of slaughtered on roads made up approx. 8, 500 while other Armenians were killed when combating Turks with weapons.

In summer 1919 During the Paris Peace Conference President Woodrow Wilson sent a special mission headed by Chief of General Staff of the US Army in France, Gen. James Hardboard to the region to appreciate the situation on territories called by Armenians as “Western Armenia” and Southern Azerbaijan. The Hardboard mission’s report to the US Senate dated October 16, 1919 noted that they reviewed territories from the Black Sea to the Iranian border but found no facts justifying Armenian claims to these territories. The Gen. Hardboard’ report reaffirmed that Armenians had never constituted majority in Eastern Anatolia nor experienced genocide. Hardboard pointed out that the mission frequently saw out Turks fleeing violence of Armenians.

Documents of the reviewed period are indicative that claims to the 1,5 millions slaightred Armenians by Ottomans were absurd.

Who are real authors of the fictitious Armenian genocide?

Contributing to the fictitious genocide of Armenians in the beginning of the 1920s were diplomats and Christian missionaries acting in the Ottoman Empire. Note that “genocide” is known to have been used as international term since 1944. Mass massacres staged by the fascist regime against Jews had first been titled as “genocide”. Godfather of claims on “Armenian massacre “ is considered to be the US Ambassador to the Ottoman Empire in 1913-1916, G. Morgenthau (1856-1946). Interested in crushing the Ottoman Empire, US President W. Wilson appointed G. Morgenthau as US Ambassador as saying: “In a short while, not a vestige remains of what is called Turkey today”. Upon arrival in Istanbul, G. Morgenthau got into rapport with Armenian leaders and committee members instigating them to fight against Turks. With that end in view, he appointed committee members, Arshak Shmavonyan as his chief assistant and interpreter, and Hakob Andonyan as his secretary.

What is important to notice is that evidence-free accusations of the US Consulate against the Ottoman Empire, Christian missionaries, Armenian committees and bogus stories were immediately went viral on social media and brought to notice of the world public. Upon his return to the United States in1919 G. Morgenthau published a book based on these fabrications titled«Memories of Ambassador Morgenthau». The author alleged that from 600, 000 to 1 million Armenians were slaughtered. Allowing for the fact that the Telegraph Agency of Turkey was led by an Armenian, it may well be imagined that Armenians and their patrons force-fed the world public opinion with false information. In 1919-1927, acting US Supreme Commissar to Turkey Mark Bristol noted in his report on Morgenthau’s patronage over Armenians and his massacre overestimation. Great on Armenian anima, М. Bristol titled them as abject, odious, disrespectable and poor in spirit nation. While at Turkey, he did his best to prevent dissemination of the Armenian fabrications worldwide.

In turn, lawyer James Brice of England (1838-1922) was a member of House of Lords and Chairman of the Anglo-Armenian society. In 1876 he toured through Caucasus and under the impression of his trip he published a book titled ”Trans-Caucasus and Ararat”. In1916 he issued a voluminous “Collected documents” and a book titled “Attitudes toward Armenians in the Ottoman Empire”. The book was based on false documents on “mass massacres of Armenians” fabricated by Christian missionaries and diplomatic representatives of Christian states”.

Well-known English historian Arnold Toynbee (1889-1975) is also regarded as one of the authors of the fabricated genocide. In 1916, on behalf of Lord James Brice he appealed to all Armenian committees and various countries asking them to provide him with more detailed anti-Turkic information. A lot of unsourced information was addressed to A. Toynbee. In May 1916, in his letter to Lord James Brice A. Toynbee said that he was permitted to publish “Armenian documents”. First ever on behalf of the British government on the basis of unchecked information from Armenian and pro-Armenian sources there was issued a book titled“Blue book” - «Massacres against Armenians, extermination of the nation”. Abundantly “enriched” with forged documents, the Toynbee’s book had repeatedly been reprinted after his death in the United States.

Johannes Lepsius (1858-1926) is touted as another godfather of “Armenian genocide”. Travelling across Eastern Anatolia as missionary, German Protestant and orientalist J. Lepsius issued a book in 1896 titled ”Armenia and Europe”. In 1914, he set up a “German-Armenian society” in Berlin. The society pursued an aim to strengthen German’s influence in Eastern Anatolia. In1916, Lepsius published a “Report on the plight of the Armenian people in Turkey” which was circulated among other missionaries. His book “Germany and Armenia” was published in 1919. In 1921, J. Lepsius testified in Berlin due to the murder of Talat-pasha. In 1998, 46- volume personal archive of J. Lepsius was brought to Yerevan and is currently exhibited at “Museum Institute of Genocide”. There is a special memory corner of I. Lepsius at the Museum.

Worthy of notice is Armin Theophil Wegner (1886-1978) who played an important role in propagating the forged “Armenian genocide”. Known as a publicist, poet and photographer of German origin, А. Wegner was an environmental medicine officer in Mesopotamia, 1915-1916. He alleged to have witnessed massacres of Armenians in Turkey. Also, Wegner presented photographs of massacres against Armenians titled as“ Photographs of Armenian genocide”. He issued essays “Endless road”, “Armeniada”, and “Armenian mothers”. А.Wegner appeared for the defendant of Talat-pasha’s murderer Sogomon Tegleryan and authored a preface to verbatim record in the form of a book. In 1927 and 1967 he visited Armenia. A street in Yerevan was named after him. There is a handful of soil fromА. Wegner’s grave.

Another author of theArmenian genocide” is AustrianFranz Werfel (1890-1945). He was under the ascendancy of Armenian Catholics. Proceeding from false documents, he published a novel “Forty days of Musa-dag” in 1934 which was translated into many languages. It is astonishing that Armenian Hakan Sarykul issued this book in Istanbul in Turkish, 4,000 copies. The book was presented in Yerevan, edition of 2000 copies.

New ‘genocide” formats

A “genocide of 1915” put forth by Armenians as far back as in mid-1960-s has repeatedly been pulled out in a new format. Most Armenian and pro-Armenian authors maintain that Armenians were exposed to genocide in 1915. Some sources say that Armenians-residents of 6 provinces of Eastern Anatolia were slaughtered in 1915-1918.

In 1991 after gaining of independence by Armenia, “genocide ideologists” decided to increase the timescale and thus trick the modern Turkish state out of money and lay new territorial claims. With that end in view, they lodged an idea of “Armenian genocide in 1915-1927”.

In an article published in “Voice of Armenia” newspaper of April 8, 2004 an Armenian ideologist Zoriy Balayan pointed out that no dates were illustrative of all periods of “Armenian genocide”. To his thinking, talks that Armenians were exposed to “genocide” in 1915 only sre none other than playing into Turks’ pocket. ZoriyBalayanholdsthatthe “Armenian genocide” period covers 1893-1927. To substantiate his idea, he refers to the Holocaust as saying that Jews do not associate their Holocaust with specific years: they developed a wide-ranging definition of “genocide of Jews” (Holocaust)”, emphasizing that the Holocaust covers years 1933-1945.

Z. Balayan notes with regret that a phrase “Armenian genocide of1915” is used as dogma in “Armenian genocide”-related articles, official and unofficial documents and in some statements. Arguing against a narrow view on the date of 1915 in the Law “On Genocide of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire in 1915” adopted by the Supreme Council of the Armenian SSR dated November 22, 1988, he insists that the recognition of years 1893-1923 as a period in the “Armenian genocide” is a matter of paramount importance in the history of Armenians.

On January29, 2015 on the occasion of 100-anniversary of the forged “Armenian genocide”, All-Armenian declaration was adopted. The declaration narrates the premeditated massacre of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire and Turkey in1894-1923, not in 1915 only. The document dissembles why exactly April 24 has been declared a day of “genocide”.

Extension of the forged genocide till 1923 inclusive is aimed at gaining a legal platform of accusations against the Turkish Republic founded in 1923, forcing material compensation out and laying territorial claims against the Turkish Republic.

Most regrettably, the lie of Armenians, not the rectitude of Turkey, is heard in the world of double standards. Suffice it to say that parliaments of Uruguay, Russia, Cyprus, Greece, Canada, Lebanon, Belgium, France, Argentina, Sweden, Switzerland, Netherlands, Slovakia, Lithuania, Venezuela, Poland and Chile resolved on recognition of the forged genocide of Armenians.

Note that 42 out of 50 US states recognized the forged genocide of Armenians and announced April 24 as “a day of memory of genocide victims”. Since the end of the1970-s each year US Presidents make a televised address to Armenians on April 24. Year after year the Armenian lobby is eager to make US Presidents pronounce a word ”genocide”. However, the US Presidents were unwilling to upset relations with Turkey and directly used a phrase“metsegern” (i.e. “great massacre”).

Under a decision of the Parliaments of Belgium and Switzerland, denial of “Armenian genocide” is deemed guilty and fined in the sum ofEuro 45, 000 and imprisonment for a term of 1 year. The same is true of the French Senate; however, the Constitutional Court of the country repealed the law.

Council of Europe and European Parliament recognized the forged “Armenian genocide”.

It has to be noted that the Armenian lie is touted as reality in some “democratic” structures and European countries while the Turkish truth is regarded as crime.

To ascertain the truth, the government of Turkey opened up its secret archives since 1989. Note that researchers Stanford Show, Bernard Levis, Hit Laurie, Justin McCartney, Gunter Levi and Samuel Whims have for a long stretch of time been studying the pith of the Armenian matter. They came to the conclusion that there had never been Armenian massacres on the Turkish territory. On the contrary, it was exactly Armenians who slaughtered Turks. A key reason of Armenian losses stemmed from the fact that they were on counter-position to Turks.

The Turkish position is that the idea of “Armenian genocide” as research topic is a matter of debates of historians, not politicians. Turkey has repeatedly declared that it is essential to set up a joint independent commission to study documents both from Turkish and other countries’ archives, set the record straight and put an end to this absurdity. For fear of exposure, Armenia prevents setting up the commission.

On October10, 2009 Foreign Ministers of Turkey and Armenia signed in Zurich “Protocol on establishment of diplomatic relations” and “Protocol on development of bilateral relations”. Under these protocols, it was meant to set up a sub-commission with the participation of Armenian, Turkish, Swiss and other international experts. The sub-commission was set to prepare recommendations aimed at restoration of mutual trust between the two peoples, including problems solution based on prejudiced scientific research into historical documents and archives. By signing the given        Protocol Armenia has thus caused doubts on “genocide” claims. It was comments of some Armenian experts and a number of western mass media. In the meanwhile, US-stationed “Hay Dad” organization stated that it would do its utmost to block the Protocol ratification.

OnFebruary16, 2015 Armenian President Serj Sargsyan appealed to the Speaker of the Parliament and expressed his will to recall the Zurich Protocols out of the Parliament under the pretext of Turkey’s refusal to recognize the “Armenian genocide”. However, the truth was that if the Zurich Protocols had been ratified, Armenia would have to give its consent to the creation of a bilateral commission for study of “genocide” and recognize absurdity of the claim.

At present, the Armenian party maintains that axiomatic “Armenian genocide” is not in need of studying and debating while the Turkish party has to recognize this ”crime” and reconcile with its consequences. It is absurdity for Turkey to take the blame upon itself, so the country is forced to absorb an offensive of pro-Armenian states and international organizations with their double standards.

Account has to be taken of the fact that leaders of the Armenian nationalistic Party “Dashnaktzutuin”supported Hitler, endorsed Holocaust and racism as evidenced by a document from US Congress archive presented on May 4, 1945 at a Congress session by Frank Hook, a member of the House of Representatives. The Hook’s statement came from an article by John Flynn, former member of the American isolationist group America First, published in “Washington Times Herald” newspaper. The author regarded “Dashnaktzutuin” as “patriots” of Armenia and vindicated their actions.

It is worth pointing out that Hook gave out information about acts of terror staged by Dashnaks on the territory of the Russian Federation, disclosed facts of deadly crimes in the United States when Archbishop Touryan was murdered after he declined to preach a sermon until Dashnaks take their flag away from the stage.

Dashnaks as pro-Nazi

Following the murder of Archbishop Leon Touryan, pro-Dashnak press extended obvious sympathy to Nazis. An eloquent testimony to this is a fragment from an article dated September 17, 1936:

“Previous Germany as a loser to the First World War divided country in line with unintelligible policy that brought it to deadlock… And then came in Adolf Hitler who touched upon buoyancy of Germans, revealed his national genius and quelled defeatist sentiments. From now on Germany is a strong, united, aggressive, proud and self-sufficing nation. Germany managed to rip to pieces and cut adrift principles of Versailles Treaty. At present, the country is a national power, and, perhaps, a top player at gambling table in Europe and worldwide. Internally organized and externally impressive German people have come to take back lands it owned before the war…

Never after the world war does Berlin pursues so effective, well-thought out policy after Hitler’s coming to power as it is now. Never has German intellect been so emphatic, clear and flexible as is today… Irrespective of foreigners’ views on Hitlerism and fascism, the two states – Germany and Italy have revived and regenerated thanks to the management system”.

Dashnaksandanti-Semites

Added to this can be that “patriots of Flynn” published impactful anti-Jewish statements. OnAugust19-21, 1936 “Ayrenik” newspaper published three lengthy pieces on the front page authored by a Dashnak who returned from Germany. The pieces glorified the Nazi regime; a myth of Aryan culture and whitewashed the Nazi repressions:

”In existence at the time the Jews are the most fanatic nationalists and champions of racial purity; wherever they are, the Jews stick to their own atmosphere, rites and traditions of internal nationalism and planet-wide citizenship to thus maintain their racial superiority and purity… In much the same way that Britishers conquer lands and defend their motherland with the help of warships, the Jews use the internationalism and communismas their weapon…

Sometimes it is difficult to get rid of poisonous elements, especially as they have taken root like a chronic illness. In the event that the country is faced  with the necessity of  exterminating them by means of unconventional policies, all their attempts are interpreted as revolutionary. It is usual practice to perform bloodletting during surgical operation… In this context the dictatorship acts as Savior” (translated from Armenian).

It should be remembered that “Ayrenik Weekly” is an Anglophone press organ of Dashnaks in Boston edited by James Mandalyan. As an affiliated edition, ”Weekly” conveyed identical political sympathies, discreetly though. A paper of August 9, 1935 referred to the fact that the movie-making was controlled by Jews, and that Armenian massacres were ascribed to Turkish Jews of Salonika because Jews were fond of money. A paper of May 10, 1935 cites vice-mayor of Bucharest who declared: “Armenians helped us, Romanians, to avoid slavery of Jewish elements”. In turn, a paper of September 25, 1936 backed by radical views of Arab nationalists unmasked Zionistic goals to make a conclusion as follows: “And a Jew that was sent to Palestine has nothing to be proud of. Their easy virtue, other malice unknown to Arabs before Balfour Declaration, as well as actions of communists was none other than a cause of Arab criticism”.

Dashnaks – anti-Christians

“Flynn patriots” were infamous for their anti-Christian statements. Vicious murder of the archbishop stems from disrespect of Dashnaks to the church and clergy. It was usual practice for ARF (Armenian revolutionary federation) leaders to burst into a church and hold political meetings in the altar part. At least, in two cases Armenians tried to protect Izmir Cathedral against defiling but were executed on the spotby “Flynn patriots”. It is worth citing that Dashnak leaders have always tried to establish political control over the church and weaken it to the level of their ideological instrument.

They exported their evil-minded intentions to America; however, thanks to flock’s adhesion and coherent historical church founded in 301 A. D. the ARF plan failed.

“Ayrenik Weekly” intentionally tried to poison a generation of US-born Dashnaks with anti-Christian hatred, so it published two shocking messages (March 29, 1935) titled ”It is better without Christianity.”Fragments are cited below:

1.”Having adopted Christianity as our national religion, we have lost far more than obtained. There is nothing we must thank Christianity…and there is much we can accuse it”.

2. “Armenian case got compromised after adoption of Christianity. This adventure brought neither profit, nor consolation… As a military nation we have lost brutality. PriortoChristianity, Armenia was a mighty state capable of greater deals than retaining its lands only… We have always been noted for national unity, solidarity and brutality”.

Dashnaks as champions for racial purity

It stands to mention that a myth  of Aryan super race was invented by Nazis in an effort to generate hopes among defeat-minded and low-spirited German masses, so Flynn’s friends added the racial idolatry to the flag idolatry. A few months before the murder “Ayrenik” (September27, 1933) published an article on the racial pietism that explained the need in “racial shocks” with the object of “racial awakening”.

«Racially pious man believes in deity of his racial blood. Race is  above all things. Race is ranked first. Everything goes for race… under racial-religious decrees; racial piousness has its common faith, its own leadership and political emblem. Racially pious men will have their own uniform, hymn, rites and feasts”(translated from Armenian).

Racial-religious decrees authored by mercenary G. Nzhdeh

“Atpresent, GermanyandItalyarestrong, hescreamed, for they love like nation and breathe like race” (“Weekly”, April 10, 1936). Paraphrasinga slogan”Youth, Heart and Iron”, Nzhdeh copied a model of the upbringing of young people from the Hitlerian one. Initially they were called race patriots, then became known as “Tsegakron.”Made of two words: tsega (race) and kron (religion), i. e. race faithful.

From this point on, young minds of “Tsegakron” gobbled up a dose of unsound racial faith, piety for fallen heroes and honoring of non-existent flag. Note that pupils were kept in severe discipline that banned marriages to non-Armenian women; otherwise, the “purity of Armenian race will be spoiled”. Dashnak leaders stemmed from a nationalistic idea that Armenism and Armenian racial nationalism were meant to remain uncorrupted at any cost. Failing that, they rang the alarm as crying that the youth would “blend in” melting pot and be lost for Armenia”. They availed of the political activity as a means of keeping the new generation within the race framework. Suffice it to become familiarized with nonsense in the minds of UN-born tsegakrons (“Ayrenik Weekly,” January 11, 1935) by Mandalyan, Darbinyan, Nzhdeh, et al:

“I’m preaching you into learning “Tsegakron”, race faith… The superior act of individualism and freedom for me is the conformity with my race. I’m Tsegakron. This is to say that I know my race. I believe in my race. I espouse my race and ‘m aware of the fact that my race is great. My race provided mankind with vastly larger benefits than heard back. I’m believer of my race and, see here, I believe in another deity – in my race’ blood with its unspotted purity that generate my people’s future… Itisapotheosis of racial will that “Tsegakron” fights for…

Dashnaks and Nazi Germany

A question arises: Did Nazis sponsor Flynn’s friends or, as was the case with a great quantity of American fascists, Dashnaks pay expenses at their own cost? A paper titled ”Propaganda is not a battlefront” provides documented evidence only and no conclusions are made. It is important to keep in mind that a letter of “Ayrenik Weekly” dated November 1, 1936 says as follows:

“Who can give a categorical assurance that Germany and Italy together with their Polish, Hungarian and other allies or independent countries would not try to cross Transcaucasia as Germans did in 1918? In other words, instead of casting our lot with “invincible” army of the Soviet Union, would not it be more sensible to set sights on a day when this army be battered and take flight to thus leave our people defenseless” (translated from Armenian)

Nolessremarkableisapaperin“News Week”of November 12, 1941 with cross-heading “Armenian puppet state”:

“As the crisis moves around the Near East, we notice proofs that Armenians in Turkey and Syria act like Nazi fifth column. Nazi chose the Dashnaktzutuin ARF for “subversion activity”. This is profoundly nationalistic organization that redirected its headquarters from Switzerland to Paris and Berlin… Nazi promised Dashnaks to set up an autonomous state like Croatia in exchange for collaboration”.

With reference to a paper of November 29, 1935, “Ayrenik Weekly ”traces back to Nazi Germany as saying that Mrs. H. Winkler sent 200 copies of her monographtitled “In the world of dragons” to “Tsegakron”. It was mentioned repeatedly that “Tsegakron” subunits had been formed in Berlin. News bulletin of May 3, 1935 rana letter of Helmut Lange, a Nazi from German town of Hemnitz, that provided an answer to a question of a Tsegakron concerning Reich’ attitude to the ARF objectives:

“We, Germans, call for principles of self-determination for not only our German compatriots living under foreign oppression but for any other people subjected to persecution. National- socialism is a mainstay of national idea and staunch opponent of slavery. We, Germans, reckon your claims as indisputably legal… Your objective is the Armenian regeneration on the path to Armenian freedom in purely Armenian spirit. We, Germans, wish our compatriots to be free of foreign yoke. As patriot of Armenia, you want your country to be free again. It is the very best thing you can do, isn’t it?”

Dashnaks – communists

Following changes in alignment of forces in the front and triumph of the Soviet army, the political line of Dashnaks had visibly changed over the past half-year. Dashnaks turned into communists. Newspapers of Mandalyan and Darbinyan were regularly reprinted by “Lraper” – Armenian edition earlier qualified as communist, and ”Sovetakan Ayastan” – official edition of Soviet Armenia. On March 29, 1944, “Weekly” published a panegyric about the Soviet Army and Great Patriotic War issued by the Soviet Embassy in Washington. Dashnaks had already shown scarcely perceptible sympathies to the left Armenian elements. On May19, 1944 an editor of ”Weekly” made a statement (translated from “Ayrenik”) that disregarded previous defamation of the Soviet regime and idolization of the Nazi theory. In so doing, he asked all the parties hostile to the ARF to turn the page on the past, and unite as follows:

“The Federation is welcoming efforts of the Soviet leadership and … is ready to offer any sacrifices for attaining the national goals. The Federation admits that Soviet Armenia is a legal political warrantor of the Armenian case”.

Dashnaks as political chameleons

It is necessary to stress that Flynn’s friends began as socialist sand social-revolutionaries, then turned into Nazi proponents, and now they are sharing Soviet views and flirting with politicians from the America First, Flynn’s well-remembered group. It is evident that the corrupt and self-seeking leaders of Dashnaktzutuin have always followed the opportunist policy and adjusted to those offering them the most advantageous conditions at the moment.

At present, pro-Nazi articles bode no good, and it is not worth propagating the anti-Semitic hatred. It is no mere coincidence that Simon Vratsyan, a member of the central committee of Dashnaktzutuin in Boston, is shedding crocodile tears (“Weekly” of September 22, 1943) in his article titled ”Tragedy of Jews”. The point is about a sanctimonious contrast with previous statements of ARF. Vratsyan weeps over “horrible fate” of Jewishness qualifying Jews as “allies of civilization”. Ignoring its anti-Zionist and pro-Arab views, “Weekly” (March22, 1944) devoted its editorial column to the jubilee of Rabban Stefan as the face of Zionism calling him a “noble son” of Jewishness and wishing him attainment of Zionist goals. In spite of the fact that Dashnaks publicly recognized ideas of internationalism and international cooperation, at present they are informants of ultra-isolationist nationalistic group of McCormick-Patterson.

Particular emphasis needs to be placed on the fact that leaders of Dashnaks aspired to be all for all, either communists, Nazi, social-democrat, isolationists or fascists. To survive, they are in need of external sources (those knowing the truth are avoiding contacts with them).

However, Flynn holds on that they are “patriots”. Based on chameleonic policy, Dashnaks succeeded in distorting patriotism; they played cat-and-mouse, hired disgowned priests, misinformed ingenuous and simple souls by means of adulation and bribery. And John Flynn who lacked proofs against the author of “Under Cover” fell prey to the ARF fondly hoping that it was truth. Note that this shameless Armenian terror and fascist gang does not represent American Armenians: the latter prefer to keep away from this gang.

When writing the article, I relied on researches of Azerbaijani and Turkish historians, archival materials of the said countries, as well as US archives, numerous notes and articles. Beyond any doubt, this is just an insignificant part of studies on the subject. This notwithstanding, it can be inferred that nothing has changed in the country whose population admires Nzhdeh’s ideas, sets up monuments to him and thus justifies terror, racism and crimes against humanity. Suffice it to think about all mentioned above and pieces of puzzle titled as ”genocide of the Armenian people,” so everything falls into place.

Suffice it to trace Armenia’s betrayal of the former fraternal people in the newest history and face abominable crimes against neighbors (there are scores of video, photo materials and eye witnesses’ account), so a question arises: who and against whom committed genocide? When adjusted for the fact that Nzhdeh still remains to be their national hero, and they are eager to deceive the world through a century-long lie about Great Armenia, the issue is still topical for 1915 events.
