A preparatory trial in the case of Giyas Ibrahimov
Baku / 20.09.16 / Turan: Today Baku Serious Crimes Court continued preliminary hearing in the case of the young activist Giyas Ibrahimov, accused of a large-scale drug trafficking. During the trial the lawyer Elchin Sadigov petitioned for termination of criminal proceedings, the replacement of the measure of restraint on house arrest, hearing activist mother as an additional witness. The judge Anvar Seyidov granted only the third petition, rejecting the other two.
During the trial Ibrahimov said that he was arrested because of the inscriptions on the monument to the ex- president Heydar Aliyev, but the judge interrupted him. Hearing will continue on 27 September.
* Giyas Ibrahimov and Bayram Mammadov, were arrested on May 10 on charges of drug trafficking. They reject the accusation and say that they were arrested in connection with the graffiti made on the monument to Heydar Aliyev: "Congratulations on the slaves holiday!" and "Down with the system!".
The investigation in the case of Mammadov is ongoing. -16D06-
