Thousands of words used in the Azerbaijani language have been borrowed from Russian. Even though Azerbaijani equivalents exist, Russian-based expressions continue to be used at official and social levels. For example, words such as “uchot” (accounting record), “bukhgalteriya” (accounting), “yest” (is/there is), “voobshe” (in general), “tak” (so), “da” (yes), and many others. At the same time, despite historical influences, the Azerbaijani language has preserved its structure, and the current goal is to make it more standardized, functional, and competitive.
