Tahir Salahov Awarded Order of Legion of Honor, Officer Degree
Yesterday in the house-museum of the People's Artist of Azerbaijan Tahir Salahov in Icheri Shahar (Old City of Baku) there was a ceremony of awarding him the Order of the French Legion of Honor, Officer Degree.
As the French Ambassador to Azerbaijan Pascal Monnier said, Tahir Salahov is an artist laying bridges between the cultures of East and West.
At exhibitions held in Paris, the artist presented Western audiences his works representing high cultural values of the Azerbaijani people.
"Despite the fact that I first exhibited my works in France in 1963 as a young artist, people liked my paintings. With special interest was perceived the portrait of the world-famous composer Gara Garayev," said Salahov.
He stressed that this is an estimate not only of his work, but also of all the fine arts of Azerbaijan.
Legion of Honor was established by Napoleon Bonaparte (in the likeness of a knight's order) on May 19, 1802. Belonging to the Order is the highest distinction, honor and official recognition of special services to France.
The award has three degrees: Chevalier, Officer, and Commander. -16d-
