Azerbaijan should restore its sovereignty
Baku/14.09.21/Turan: In recent days, videos have appeared on social networks depicting the entry through the territory of Armenia of vehicles belonging to Iran and some other countries into the territory of Azerbaijan where Russian peacekeepers are temporarily stationed. It is reported that from August 11 to September 10, 58 vehicles carrying mainly fuel and lubricants entered Khankendi without an official permit from Baku. Later, 55 of them left the territory of Azerbaijan.
In this regard, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry has sent letters to the Russian Defense Ministry and the Command of the peacekeeping forces. The letters note that these incidents are contrary to the Trilateral Statement of the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Russia on November 10 and the Prime Minister of Armenia.
What steps should Azerbaijan take to prevent illegal supplies to the Karabakh region? Why don't Russian peacekeepers prevent the illegal entry of vehicles belonging to other countries onto the territory of Azerbaijan?
Political commentator Rauf Mirkadirov answered these and other questions in the program "Difficult Question".
According to him, in order to prevent these illegal supplies to the Karabakh region, Azerbaijan should restore its sovereignty.
As for the question "why don't Russian peacekeepers prevent the illegal entry of vehicles belonging to other countries onto the territory of Azerbaijan?", according to Mirkadyrov, if Azerbaijan itself is not able to restore its sovereignty on its own territory, then it is at least not serious to appeal to the Russian Defense Ministry.
At the same time, the expert believes, the Statement does not regulate the procedure for vehicles entering the territory of Azerbaijan where Russian peacekeepers are temporarily stationed. Therefore, it is impossible to demand that Russian peacekeepers should prevent the flow of cargo to Karabakh.
Also, Mirkadyrov emphasized that the Statement refers to the deployment of the Russian peacekeeping contingent on the contact line in the Nagorno-Karabakh region and along the Lachyn corridor. But it says nothing of the Zangezur corridor. The point is exclusively about unblocking transport links through Zangezur between the western regions of Azerbaijan and the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic. At the same time, Armenia guarantees the security of transport communication while the border service of the Federal Security Service of Russia should exercise control over it. But that hasn't happened yet.—0—
