Firuza Gyulalyeva: Oktay's rehabilitation process continues
Baku/18.05.21/Turan: Human rights activist Oktay Gyulalyev, who has been in a coma since October 2019, is making progress, his wife Firuza stated on Monday in the "Difficult Question" program of the Turan agency. “He can already move his arms and transmit messages. Doctors believe that the vocal cords will be restored as well, but doctors do not give any other predictions yet,” she said.
She explains such a serious state is because of delayed assistance after a car hit him on October 29 in the center of Baku.
“He was not given the necessary assistance for a day. Immediately after the accident, he was brought to the Clinical Hospital, but the necessary examination was not carried out, the degree of injury was not established. If he had received the necessary assistance immediately, the result would have been different. All this is the result of medical irresponsibility,” said the spouse.
If Oktay had not been taken to Turkey for treatment, he probably would not have survived. Doctors in Baku told the chance to survive was no higher than 20%. She expressed gratitude to the Heydar Aliyev Foundation for support in Oktay's treatment in Turkey and after returning from there. Currently, the main task is recovery procedures, rehabilitation measures, restoration of lost body functions, she said.
Oktay Gyulalyev was hit by a car on October 29, 2019; a few hours later, he fell into a coma. He was operated on his head only a day later. On November 5, with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, he was sent to a clinic in Istanbul.
For several months, he was treated at the American clinic in Istanbul, after which he was returned to Baku, where the treatment continues at home. -0-
