Today Azerbaijan will perform in the semifinals of the Eurovision Song Contest
Baku/18.05.21/Turan: Today, on May 18, the representative of Azerbaijan Samira Efendi will perform the song "Mata Hari" in the first semifinal of the Eurovision-2021 song contest, which will be held in Rotterdam (Netherlands).
The songwriters are Dutch Amy van der Weel, Luc van Beers (one of the authors of the dance composition Cleopatra last year in 2020) and Toni Cornelissen (producer of Cleopatra).
The composition contains national Azerbaijani musical instruments - zurna and nagara, as well as ethnic motives based on the melody of the Azerbaijani folk dance "Yalli". Along with this, a phrase in Azerbaijani sounds: “Yalan da mən, yanan da mən, yaman da mən” (“Deception is me, flame is me, and Evil is me”).
“It is very important to talk about strong women in order to remind our beautiful ladies that, despite the fact that we still live in a world full of prejudices, a woman can do anything and female power cannot be compared with anything,” said Samira.
Samira Efendi also represented Azerbaijan in the Eurovision Song Contest 2020, but for the first time in history, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) canceled it due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
