Area under winter crops increased by 3.8%
At the end of December 2012 the area under winter cereals and fodder crops amounted to 1 million 079 thousand hectares, which is 39,000 or 3.8% more than in the previous year.
According to the State Statistics Committee, the share of wheat is 690.4 thsd hectares of farmland. This is 0.2% higher than at the end of 2011. The areas sown for barley (307,000 ha) increased by 14.8%. This is due to the increasing demand of livestock and poultry.
The Azerbaijani government stimulates the production of grain. For every hectare cultivated the farmers get 80 manats. This year, to ensure the secure supply of food, the government will allocate 125 million manats from the state budget. - 08D-
