The state company Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) announced the creation of a low-budget line traffic (low cost direction) and the introduction of seats on all flights at low rates. This is stated in the press service of the state-owned company.
In particular, AZAL creates a low-budget line of traffic on the routes:
- Baku-Antalya-Baku - 3 times a week, starting from August this year;
- Baku-Istanbul-Baku - 1 flight daily starting from September this year;
- Baku-Moscow-Baku - 2 flights daily from October this year;
- Baku-Dubai-Baku - 1 flight daily from October this year.
On these routes the typical business model of low cost airlines will be used. Embraer airplanes will be operated in the flights. Final selling price of tickets to these areas does not exceed 99 euros each way.
In addition, it was decided to impose new tariff policy aimed at reducing the prices.
So, from August 1 this year, AZAL will apply 20% discount from the minimum current tariffs of economy class. The number of tickets sold at this rate will be 30% of the seats. At the same time, passengers will be saved all the services of the economy class, the state company said. -02D-

Azerbaijan’s economy, which is heavily dependent on oil revenues, faces a stark warning in the 2021 report by Carbon Tracker titled “Beyond the Oil States: The Urgent Need to Reduce Dependence on Oil in the Context of the Energy Transition.” The report ranks Azerbaijan among the most vulnerable oil-dependent countries, placing it in the "5th group" — a category reserved for nations expected to experience a decline in oil and gas revenues exceeding 40% over the next decade. This group includes Angola, Bahrain, Timor-Leste, Equatorial Guinea, Oman, and South Sudan, highlighting shared economic risks for these states.

In Azerbaijan, the government has increasingly relied on tax exemptions for imported goods as a tool to stabilize domestic market prices. The exemption from the 18% VAT on wheat imports, extended this year, exemplifies this approach. New measures have also been introduced, including tax relief on imports of electric vehicle chargers, while exemptions for high-cost medications are currently under discussion. Notably, defense imports continue to be free from taxes and customs duties.
