Azerbaijan Has 29,000 Legal Labor Migrants
The number of legal labor migrants in Azerbaijan has increased by 3.71% since the beginning of the year (+ 688 persons), amounting to 28 903 migrant workers. This is evident from the report of the State Social Protection Fund (SSPF) of deductions for compulsory social insurance in January-February.
According to the Fund, the majority of registered migrant workers (87.83% or 25 385 people) are men. Total represented are 118 countries, and the Turks lead, as a rule (14 053 people), while from Georgia there are 3,068 people, and from Russia there are 1,749.
In addition, relatively well represented are Iran, India, China, United Kingdom, Pakistan, Ukraine, and the rest behind.
According to the State Migration Service, by the beginning of the year in the country there were about 150 thousand registered foreigners and stateless persons, mostly Azeris from Georgia and Iran.
The process of attracting labor migrants to the payment of contributions for compulsory social insurance started on 1 January 2006. --17D-
