Baku/28.06.18 / Turan: "20 normative and legal acts were adopted recently in connection with the process of Azerbaijan's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO)", stated the Minister of Economy Shahin Mustafayev at a meeting with the head of the Working Group on Azerbaijan, Walter Werner, on Azerbaijan's accession to the WTO.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Economy, the meeting focused on relations between Azerbaijan and the WTO. Saying that the legislation of Azerbaijan meets WTO requirements, S. Mustafayev stressed the importance of awareness-raising activities.

Several years ago, Azerbaijan approved the Action Plan on harmonization of Azerbaijani legislation in accordance with the requirements of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

The Azerbaijani working group on Azerbaijan's accession to the WTO controls the implementation of this plan.

Azerbaijan began negotiations with the WTO in 1997. Many neighbors of Azerbaijan have already joined this organization.

Officials explain the delay in the negotiations by the need for gradual adaptation of Azerbaijani legislation to the requirements of this organization.

However, independent experts say that in fact Azerbaijan is not interested in joining this organization, because the WTO requires reforms and a serious fight against corruption. These experts believe that the Azerbaijani government is not yet ready for these reforms.

However, officials emphasize the deepening reforms and a serious fight against corruption in the country.

A few months ago, Deputy Foreign Minister Mahmud Mammadguliyev said that Azerbaijan's accession to the WTO is relevant. "But I do not think it's possible within a year or two," he said.--0--
