Baku Hosts Seminar on Organization of Information System in Organic Farming
Baku / 21.09.16 / Turan: On September 21 Baku hosted a seminar dedicated to the organization of an information collection system in organic farming in Azerbaijan. Although the government claims that the agricultural products produced in the country comply with the requirements of environmentally friendly products, the organic farms have not yet been certified.
The head of the Plant Growing Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Imran Jumshudov, told Turan that roughly 70% of the agricultural products and products of their processing in Azerbaijan comply with environmental standards. Several private companies (Azersun Holding, Gilan Holding, etc.) have obtained international certificates abroad. Now work is underway on the creation of a laboratory, which will obtain special accreditation and issue certificates to organic agriculture farms, the representative of the Ministry of Agriculture said.
During the workshop the international consultant of the project, Uygun Aksoy, told about the experience of Turkey in the field of certification of organic agriculture and collection of information.
The seminar was organized within the framework of the FAO project “The development of organic agriculture in Azerbaijan and strengthening of institutional capacities.” ------08C
