Forest area covers 11.8% of the country with seedlings

The forest area is 11.8% of the territory of Azerbaijan. According to the report of the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Huseyn Bagirov at the enlarged meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on the basis of socio-economic development of the country in January-September this year, just in the last 10 years, there were planted 80 million trees, though he did not voice the survival rate of seedlings.

According to him, from January to October 1, there were planted 2 million 242 thousand trees per 1,144 hectares of forest. There were built 10 underground concrete reservoirs with a volume of 8.16 thousand cubic meters, as well as seven earthen reservoirs with a volume of 200,000 cubic meters. As part of the 1.7 thousand hectares of land there were planted more than 1.1 million olive seedlings imported from abroad. There were kept 900 hectares of olive orchards, and for the last 2.5 years, the area has tripled, he added.

The official said that today the ​specially protected areas and nature reserves are 10.3% of the land, and after the completion of the project to build two more of these areas, the total area of ​​protected forests will be 13%.

To combat air emissions, there were closed 21 companies, the activity of 32 was limited, and 17 more sources were eliminated. --17D-
