The former finance minister Fikret Yusifov (1994-1999) founded with a group of companions an Association for International Economic Studies (AIES) "Ekonomiks". The new NGO announced its goal the preparation of proposals to address the existing gaps in the economy. "None country in the world achieved as much success as Azerbaijan, but there are drawbacks. Our organization intends to take steps for their quick and painless solutions for the accelerated economic development," stated categorically Yusifov. At the same time, he did not specify what he meant by shortcomings and what exactly he is going to do. But he commended the economic, budgetary policy of the government.
The ex-minister said that he considers the right the use of funds of the State Oil Fund for the implementation of public investment projects, the amount of which is more than half of the state budget.
The decline in world oil prices he called politically motivated, and the budget price of $90 per barrel is right decision. "Why to cut down revenue and expenditure side of the budget in the presence of huge foreign exchange reserves?" he said.
The first project of the AIES "Ekonomiks" will be cooperation with the media in the format of debates to discuss economic processes in the country. As for the new donor NGOs, this "individuals," Yusifov said vaguely.
