Fourth Meeting Held by State Commission of European Integration
The 24 August 4th meeting of the State Commission of European integration has been discussed the state of affairs relating to the European Union and its prospects. Following the discussions, it was decided to improve the activity of the Commission and the Plan of measures to bring its legislation into line with EU law, the Ministry of Economic Development reported Turan.
The Chairman of the State Committee for European integration, Minister of Economic Development Shahin Mustafayev said at the meeting that one main directions of the foreign policy of Azerbaijan is the creation and development of a sustainable and effective cooperation in the EU. The basis of this cooperation was laid in 1996 with the signing of the Agreement on Partnership and Cooperation Agreement. In 2006, the Plan was adopted in the framework of the European Neighborhood Policy. Currently, negotiations are underway on projects the Association Agreement, the Agreement on common aviation area and document the strategic partnership for modernization.
The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mahmoud Mammadguliyev, deputy head of the Presidential Administration Novruz Mammadov, who spoke there.
It was noted that in the first half of 2013, the share of EU trade turnover of Azerbaijan amounted to 43.7%. Over the past 10 years, the share of EU countries in investment in fixed assets in Azerbaijan amounted to 51% and in the non-oil sectors of the economy - 36.5%. With 17 member countries of the European Union signed an agreement on mutual encouragement and protection of investments, 20 countries on avoiding double taxation. With 13 EU countries there are intergovernmental economic commissions. - 08D -
