Growth in Agricultural Production - 2.6%
The gross value of agricultural production in Azerbaijan in 2016 increased by 2.6%, according to the Ministry of Agriculture.
The volume of crop production rose by 2.5% over the year. The crop picked was 3 million 65.1 thousand tons of grain and leguminous plants with an average yield of 30.7 quintals / ha.
Potato production (902.4 thousand tons) increased by 7.5%, tobacco (3,598.2 tons) – by 3.8%, tea leaves – by 1,015 tons (75.4%), sugar beet (321.3 thousand. tons) – by 72.7%. Also picked were 88,596.9 tons of cotton, 2.5 times more than in 2015.
For other types of agricultural products the production declined. During the year, the crop was 1 million 296.3 thousand tons of vegetables (-0.5%), 464.6 thousand tons of melons (-4.1%), 883.7 thousand tons of fruits and berries (-0.5%), 134.5 thousand tons of grapes (-14.4%), and 17.1 thousand tons of sunflower (-9.3%). --08D--
