Import of cars increases by 17.6%
Over seven months of this year Azerbaijan imported 58,258 units of vehicles. This is by 17.6% more than over the comparable period of 2012. According to the State Customs Committee, during this period of the year, officials and dealers, as well as individuals delivered to the country 52,673 passenger cars, by 23.1% more than over the same period of last year.
Due to the activity in the construction sector there is a demand for specialized equipment. The import of tractors, excavators, bulldozers, cranes and other construction equipment totals 556 units, by 6.1% more than over the comparable period of last year.
For other types of motor vehicle imports declined. Since the beginning of the year were purchased from abroad 4,486 trucks (19.9%), buses and vans - 543 (-14.5%.)
Civil society organizations are concerned about the growing number of vehicles in Azerbaijan because of poor level of road infrastructure. In this case, the exploitation term of half of the country's motor park is over 10 years, what leads to a deterioration of the environmental situation in the country.--08B—
