Pilot Projects for Demolition of Old Housing in Capital
Pilot projects in the Surakhani, Khatai, Narimanov, Nasimi, Yasamal, Sabail and Pirallahi areas of Baku are conducted, presuming the demolition of old housing and construction of new blocks of flats.
As reported by the State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture, in the course of the project the international housing standards, the population density standards, the ratio of green spaces and so on will be met.
These projects involve the construction of a number of 14-15 storey residential buildings in the streets of Tabriz and Firdovsi Aliyev (Narimanov district), three high-rise residential buildings on Fatali Khan Khoysky Street and the Faik Askerov Crossing (Narimanov district);
On Khanlar Street in the Sabail district four 1-2 storey houses will be demolished and four high-rise buildings will be constructed.
Houses in the square enveloping the streets Shamil Azizbekov, Samed Vurgun, Mardanov Gardashlari and S. Askerova, etc. will be demolished.
The terms and the demolition compensations have not been disclosed.
In general, the demolition of up to 1,000 homes and moving of 20,000 people to new ones is assumed to be carried out before 2020. -02D-

Azerbaijan's financial standing continues to strengthen as the country's foreign currency reserves have surged to $71 billion as of January 1, 2025, according to the Ministry of Finance. This figure, which includes reserves held by the State Oil Fund of Azerbaijan (SOFAZ) and the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA), far exceeds the nation's external debt, which stands at a fraction of its reserves, specifically nearly 14 times less. This robust reserve position reflects Azerbaijan's fiscal stability and the government’s strategic economic management.
