Russian Prime Minister and his Azerbaijani counterpart discuss strengthening economic ties
Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin held a telephone conversation with his Azerbaijani counterpart Ali Asadov on Thursday, December 28, during which the main attention was paid to key aspects of bilateral economic cooperation between the two countries. The discussion on Russian-Azerbaijani trade and economic relations touched upon such key sectors as industry and transport.
During the talks, joint efforts within the framework of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and other multilateral forums were also touched upon, reflecting the depth of the strategic partnership between Russia and Azerbaijan, as stressed by the press service of the Government of the Russian Federation.
The dialogue builds on previous discussions, in particular when Prime Minister Ali Asadov hosted Prime Minister Mishustin in Baku last November. During this meeting, both premiers expressed optimism about the broad prospects for cooperation, especially in the transport and logistics sector.
Asadov highlighted the positive dynamics of Russian-Azerbaijani relations, highlighting the potential for Russian companies to participate in projects of industrial parks in Azerbaijan. The main direction of their cooperation, Asadov noted, revolves around the transport and transit sector. He reported a significant increase in the volume of cargo transportation between Azerbaijan and Russia.
The Prime Minister of Azerbaijan also stressed the strategic importance of the international North-South transport corridor, emphasizing its role in promoting regional development, trade and economic growth for all participating States.
In response, Mishustin expressed Russia's keen interest in expanding partnership with Azerbaijan, seeking to fill it with new initiatives and specific projects. He reaffirmed his commitment to achieving the common goals outlined by the Presidents of the two countries, focusing on priority areas such as industrial cooperation, transport, energy and cultural and humanitarian exchanges.
The ongoing high-level dialogue reflects a mutual commitment to strengthening economic ties between Russia and Azerbaijan, exploring opportunities for cooperation and joint initiatives in various sectors.—0-
