Situation with Lending in Azerbaijan’s Banks

In Azerbaijan, the number of banks that stopped lending reached 13. This list added 2 more banks - AFB Bank and Bank Respublika. Financial institutions, citing revision of debt terms as a reason, refused to release loans. The other 11 banks not granting loans are AG Bank, Amrah Bank, Ata Bank, Azerbaijan Senaye Bank, Bank Silk Way, Bank VTB (Azerbaijan), Gunay Bank, Mugan Bank, Nakhchivan Bank, NBC Bank, and Nikoil Bank.

Thus, at the moment loans are issued by 19 banks. Of these, Khalg Bank and the Baku branch of the National Bank of Pakistan issue business loans, and the remaining 17 banks provide both consumer and business loans.

Annual interest rates of consumer loans in AZN fluctuate between 15 and 36%, and 14-36% in dollars. Fourteen banks lend to natural persons only in national currency, and 3 banks - both in national and foreign currency. Over the last month three banks changed annual interest rates of consumer loans in AZN. So, credit interest of the International Bank of Azerbaijan has now changed from 26-29% to 27-29%, while Bank of Baku by the end of this month as part of an ongoing discount campaign will change it from 26-32% to 24-30% and Rabita Bank - from 17-29% to 23-27%.
