SOCAR President held talks with President of Turkmenistan
In the capital of Turkmenistan met the country's president, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the head of SOCAR Rovnag Abdullayev, Turkmen media reported.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss cooperation in the energy sphere. Details of the meeting were not disclosed, however, information on Turkmen television stated that the parties intend to "work together to solve issues of global energy security."
In this regard, the constructive strategy of Turkmenistan to create multiple-choice system of export pipelines was mentioned. Rovnag Abdullayev confirmed the "deep interest" of Azerbaijan to strengthen business ties with Turkmenistan for the sustainable economic development of the Caspian region.
The sides discussed the possibility of Azerbaijan's participation in the projects of Turkmen oil and gas processing and production of fuels and lubricants.
Recall that this is the second meeting of the head SOCAR with President Berdimuhamedov this year. Prior to this, FM of Turkmenistan visited Baku. The main theme of all these negotiations was the transportation of Turkmen energy resources to Europe via Azerbaijan, the possibility of building a trans-Caspian gas pipeline, settlement of the disputed oil fields in the Caspian Sea, and joint projects in the energy sector.
Based on estimates from the official media of both countries, the outcome of the negotiations suggests reaching agreements in principle.
In the case of settlement of the above problems, it will be possible to speak of a breakthrough not only in bilateral relations, but in a major change in the geopolitical situation in the Caspian region as a whole. So, connecting Turkmenistan with its huge reserves of gas and oil with the infrastructure of the Southern energy corridor would significantly strengthen the position of Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan on the world oil and gas markets. -02D-
