Collective Security Treaty Organization guarantees it will not heal the Armenians (CSTO)
Baku / 06.03.18 / Turan: Nagorno-Karabakh is not a CSTO member state, and Stepanakert will not receive military support from the Organization, said Colonel-General Anatoly Sidorov, head of the Joint Staff of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, during the Moscow-Yerevan-Astana-Bishkek- Minsk. The theme of the teleconference held on March 6 was "Major threats to military security for the CSTO member states".
Sidorov said that all CSTO agreements were signed specifically with Armenia, and, accordingly, it has certain obligations to Yerevan. "Citizens of Armenia should be sure that, if necessary, the CSTO will not leave them in trouble," Sidorov stressed.
Responding the question onto a reminder of Aliyev's statement about the return of Azerbaijanis to Yerevan, the general noted that the situation between Armenia and Azerbaijan is rather tense, but not so much so that the two countries "take each other's capital away from each other". He recalled that once the two republics, their peoples were members of one large Soviet family, living in peace and mutual respect.
The Armenian press and politicians talk a lot about the silence of the CSTO during the shelling of Armenian settlements by the Azerbaijani army. Sidorov drew attention to the fact that the CSTO does not have the authority to intervene in any conflict in which a member country of the Organization participates without a corresponding request for support.
Sidorov's statement is offensive and sensational for Armenians, as he gave them hope in October 2017, hinting in a veiled manner that the CSTO will not be left out if the war in Karabakh breaks out again. "We all know about the pain and problem of Armenia, about the existing conflict. The CSTO forces, in accordance with the organization's charter, are designed to protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the organization's members, "he said.
According to him, the decision on this is taken by the Collective Security Council after the appeal of this country. If one of the CSTO members needs real help, the troops of the collective forces are ready to provide it. "Armenia should not have any doubts on this issue, the Organization has about 20,000 well-trained servicemen ready to react at any time and in any direction," said General Sidorov.
In the Armenian press at that time they recalled the law of the Supreme Soviet of the Armenian SSR of December 1, 1989, according to which Nagorno-Karabakh and the Armenian Republic are united in one state, and, therefore, the CSTO is obliged to intervene in the war for Karabakh. -0--
