Israel Signals Intent for Prolonged Ground Operation in Gaza
Baku/11.10.23/Turan: Israeli authorities have reportedly conveyed a stark message to Cairo, signaling their preparations for a ground operation in the Gaza Strip targeting the Hamas movement, with expectations that it could extend over several months. The revelation, shared by an unnamed Egyptian official and reported by The Times of Israel on Tuesday, underscores the intensifying situation in the region.
"Israel is preparing for a months-long ground campaign in the Gaza Strip, and this message has been transmitted to Cairo," the Egyptian official stated.
Sources suggest that Israel is currently reluctant to engage in mediation efforts, preferring to exert military pressure on Hamas before contemplating the possibility of a ceasefire.
The developments come in the wake of a series of rocket attacks launched from the Gaza Strip on October 7, which targeted southern and central regions of Israel. During the same incident, dozens of Palestinian militants utilized trucks and paragliders to enter Israeli territory from Gaza. In response, the Israel Defense Forces formally announced the commencement of "Operation Iron Swords," and the Israeli authorities declared the country to be in a state of war.
The situation remains highly fluid, with both domestic and international stakeholders closely monitoring the evolving dynamics in the region. As Israel appears to be preparing for an expanded ground operation, questions remain about the potential consequences for an already unstable Middle East.--0--
