Turkmenistan Increases Term of President’s Office and Removes Age Limit for President
The Parliament of Turkmenistan adopted a new constitution, repealing the age limit of 70 years for the President.
In the previous constitution of 2008 it was stated that the President of Turkmenistan shall be a citizen not younger than 40 and not older than 70 years. In the new constitution there is no restriction of ‘not older than 70 years.’ In addition, the presidential term has been increased from five to seven years.
The next elections in the country will be held in February 2017. -02D-
