Two Azerbaijani Citizens Wounded in Terrorist Attack in Turkey
Azerbaijani citizens, a man and a woman, were injured in a terrorist attack at a nightclub in Istanbul.
According to the Azerbaijan Foreign Ministry press service, the woman received medical treatment and was discharged from hospital, while the man was hospitalized.
The Consulate General of Azerbaijan in Istanbul is clarifying the identity of the two people.
The Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev expressed his condolences to his Turkish counterpart Recep Erdogan and strongly condemned the attack. The Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov also sent a letter of condolences to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey Mevlut Cavusoglu.
The armed attack on the night club Reina in Istanbul took place at 01:15 local time on New Year's Eve. The attacker dressed as Santa Claus burst into the club, and opened fire with Kalashnikov assault rifles. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Turkey, 39 people were killed, another 69 were wounded in the attack. Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu told that 21 dead were identified, 16 of which were foreigners. -06D-
