Easter services in churches of Azerbaijan were held without the participation of parishioners

Baku/19.04.20/Turan: Easter services in the temples of Azerbaijan last night were without parishioners. Only representatives of the clergy took part in the festivities, which was associated with precautionary measures as part of the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

According to tradition, the main festival was held in the Cathedral of the Holy Myrrh Bearing Women in Baku. An Easter liturgy was held in this temple with the participation of the head of the Baku-Azerbaijan diocese - Archbishop Alexander.

In the morning, an opportunity was created for parishioners of two or three people to visit the courtyards of churches to receive illuminated Easter cakes and to pass the ritual of reading prayers.

This form of the festival was agreed with the Operational Headquarters under the Cabinet of Ministers, the Baku Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church said.

The clergy provided measures to maintain social distance between participants in religious-holiday processions and in the distribution of charitable assistance.

The number of Orthodox in Azerbaijan is about 150 thousand people.

Previously, President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva addressed the Orthodox Christians of Azerbaijan. — 06B-
