24th jubilee of Popular Front marked in Nakhchivan
On July 16 the 24th jubilee of creation of the Popular Front of Azerbaijan (PPFA) and the National Resistance Movement was marked in Nakhchivan.
The opposition and civil society activists spoke about the PPFA creation and the party’s activities at the end of the 1980s.
Sabir Veliyev, Musavat party’s chairman, Farid Askarov, representative of Civil Solidarity party, and Nuraddin Bayramov, representative of Open Society party, have made a speech at the event.
They mentioned services of the PPFA leader Abulfaz Elchibey and his companion-in-arms. It has stressed that PPFA has achieved independence for people, but failed to achieve civil freedoms. The recent creation of the National Council will become a logical continuation of the process started 24 years ago and will allow achieve democratization of the society.
Holding of the event in Nakhchivan was very dangerous, considering the authoritarian regime there.—0—

Independent journalist Khanum Mustafayeva was unable to leave Azerbaijan on January 11. At the Baku airport, she was told that the ban was imposed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan. However, the reasons for restricting the journalist's rights were not explained to her.
