A. Hajili: European Parliament will consider resolution on Tofig Yagublu case
Baku / 07.09.20 / Turan: A meeting of the public committee in defense of Tofig Yagublu was held at the headquarters of the Musavat party on Monday. The head of the Committee, deputy chairman of Musavat Faraj Karimli told Turan, a working group of party members and civil society activists was formed at the meeting to actively protect Yagublu's rights, including informing international structures about his hunger strike.
The group also included human rights activist Rufat Safarov, Zafar Ahmedov, Arzu Abdulla.
The head of "Musavat" Arif Hajili said that the ALDE faction of the European Parliament adopted a resolution demanding the release of Yagublu, and will submit it to the European Parliament.
Lawyer Nemat Karimli said that Yagublu's health deteriorated. He also said that an appeal would be sent to the European Court of Human Rights about the danger to Yagublu's life. In accordance with the procedure, the European Court must make a decision on this appeal within a few days.
In addition, a hunger strike of solidarity with Yagublu will continue at the Musavat headquarters from September 7.

According to the Turkish newspaper Sabah, officials from the Istanbul Prosecutor's Office's Anti-Smuggling Unit have detained an Azerbaijani citizen with a large shipment of gold. The detention took place near the Vadi İstanbul shopping center in the Sarıyer district, where a taxi was stopped. During the search, 70 kg of gold was found. The Azerbaijani citizen in the vehicle claimed ownership of the cargo and also stated that he was a diplomat. The investigation by the prosecutor's office is ongoing, reports Sabah newspaper. The media outlet does not disclose the name of the "diplomat," only his initials – M.G.Ş. The Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs has declined to comment on the situation.
